Usually, my TA runs well, but sometimes after driving it hard, or when the weather warms up, it falls down on power during WOT. I'm assuming this is vapor lock. If it is: I thought I read somewhere I could change my mechanical fuel pump to one that does not have a return line and that should fix the problem. Is that so? Any ideas?

I would have that with my 455 all the time. It's fuel boiling in the line to the fuel pump. Atleast in my case it was. On the suction line. I tried insulating the line, larger pumps, but it was on the suction line that was having the issue. I ended up putting a Holley Blue electric pump back at the tank, and issue solved.
I also changed all my fuel line when installed the Holley too. Could be a rubber line on the pump suction side is separating and colapsing as well.
