does anybody here know what will fit under the stock wheel wells of a 1968 firebird, both width and height? any offset info would help to. trying to see what my options are but is tough when my car is on the other side of the world.

Thanks,
Artie

Artee, I have under my 68, 8x18" Foose legends with zero offset the tires are Nitto 265 45 18's. If your front springs are original (any sag), they will not fit as I learned this the hard way. If you have new springs or coilovers that I use they'll fit just fine. there is plenty of room to place a 10" wheel and wider tire on the rear without hitting your shock mount, I learned this after I bought the tires.

Artie,

I am running entirely stock suspension parts, front springs, shocks, etc. with BF Goodrich TA radials 235-60-R14's on my 69 convertible with the stock Rallye II wheels and trim rings One other guy in our club is running Cragar Mags 15 X 7 with 245-55-R15 tires.
I have seen a 1968 Firebird with 7 X 17 chrome wheels and 255-50-R17 Nitto NT rubber which looks very good.

Alrighty guys here is the plan

up front
17x8 with 0" offset and 4.5" backspace, should go well with the 12" wilwood rotors and global west tubular control arms

in the rear
17x10.5 with .44" offset and 7.48" backspace

I will post some picks when she is all done

Hi Artie, I thought the Ft Bragg was a clue, hope all is well with you and your deployment. We're always thinking of you guys and wishing you health and success. I retired two years ago (used SGM). Anyway my 68' had been my retirement project. The tires are a tough one as no one seems to have the answer or wants to share it. First thing to keep in mind, or suggestion, before you invest any cash in new wheels install brand new front coil + shocks and new leaf springs and shocks in the rear. This way you can get to the very edge of the fitament envelope. With a new factory suspension you can install 245/45R18's all of the way around without any mods (moving shocks, etc). If you do not already have them, aftermarket front discs will push your wheels out about 1 1/2" (or thats what I encountered), in this case you can go to a 225/35R18 on the front and keep 245/45R18's on the rear. The tires I replaced were 245/45R18x7. On the 7" wheel you can to 255 on the rear for a staggered look.

I have 255/45/17 front and 275/40/17 rear. The rears are a perfect fit, the fronts I would move in a quarter inch. I'm not sure the BS (i think 4 front on an 8 inch and 5.75 rear on a 9.5 inch rear). I did the measurements before I converted the front disc. I also have mine lowered a bit.
