I got a drill press for Christmas, that I just took out of the box and put up tonight. I've been waiting to clear enough room in the garage for the new parts washer and the drill press. Finally got the space cleared out, and got the parts washer set up, and then went to put up the drill press. Now, I hadn't taken it out of the box yet, so I was expecting a simple drill press, such as a cheaper model that you could buy just about anywhere. Not that this bothers me, it would have worked just fine. But, to my surprise, this is nothing like the cheaper models. This thing is totally set. It is a floor model press, that has the nice crank handle that can raise and lower the drilling plate/surface. It has the grooves in the plate for the holders to securely hold the object being drilled. Then, I notice an angle gauge tape on the side with a pointer. You can set the angle of the plate and lock it in to drill at just about whatever angle you want to drill at. As I put it together, the drill is actually belt drive, with three pulleys, and two belts. This is a 16 speed drill and has chart on the inner cover showing where to run the belts for different speeds, and a chart showing what speed is need depending on the material being drilled and the thickness of the material being drilled. Now, the drill head is a removable one, can't remember the actual type name, but it is the one where you can change the head with a piece of angled steel, prying it into a slot, the drill head will drop off, and you change easily put on larger drill heads. This freaking thing even has a cooling oil tank with nozzle running over toward where the drill bit would be, and a drain and coolant recovery tank underneath the drilling plate. I was very impressed to say the least. I just couldn't believe that my wife and my parents got me one that nice. Now, I know my dad had to have picked this one out, and I don't even want to know what the heck it cost. But I am happy as heck with this drill press!
