Hello all, new member here. I am in the middle of checking out a 76 firebird formula 350 4 speed manual. 42k original mi. Can someone tell me if any of the 350's came with a hurst shifter from the factory? and could you get louvers with the 76 from the factory also? Thanks in advance! one more thing...can anyone direct me to a website to check the vin# and breakdown of this formula?

Not sure about the factory Hurst shifter. I know you could get a factory Hurst shifter in a 76 T/A because I knew someone who had one. But the weird thing was it didn't have the adjustable stop bolts like Hurst Competition plus shifters have. Most of the time you could get the same options on a Formula that a T/A had, so perhaps a factory Hurst shifter is certainly very possible. I don't think the factory ever offered rear window louvers. You can go to myvindecoder.com/pontiac-vin-decoder/‎ and type in your VIN

Thank You JoePeek! I did a ton of research on this year and model and I haven't even found a 76 formula 350 with a 4 speed manual, which WAS an option. I did find out ONLY the Formula in 1976 had an option "appearance package". I cannot find out what the appearance package had though. This car owner73yr old guy whom I am related to by marriage has told me this car has only been painted once in the correct carousel red. Looks to be unmolested original 42k mi. the only thing I could see off the bat was the air cleaner is not original.

That's a nice one. Looks great.

You asked about louvers but yours doesn't have them??? Are you just trying to find out what the appearance package included or did you remove the louvers?

Also check under the back seatback for the build sheet. It will have all of the RPO codes listed on it so you can see the specific options your car had from the factory. That will tell you more than the VIN.

Very nice Jeff !!

Nice Car.

Yes, the Hurst shifter was an option on the 76 Formula 4 speed cars.

I have never seen a factory louver on a Firebird. I can only assume some dealers did install them. Others were bought aftermarket and installed by owners.

A car that nice you should order the PHS documents for it.

The only thing the VIN will tell you is if it was originally a Formula ("U" in position 2) and the original motor that came in the car.

The Data Sheet - originals were placed both under the passenger rear seat cushion and on top of the gas tank - will show all the RPO codes that designate the transmission, color and other options. This by far is the most reliable source of information and will show the VIN so you can match it to the car. You can also get trim codes from the Data Plate attached to the firewall.

To my knowledge, all rear window louvers (metal or plastic) were dealership or aftermarket add-ons. People either love them or hate them. I think black ones echo the rocker stripe on Formulas very nicely, but they've been known to rattle and vibrate at speed and cause damage if they come loose from their mounting tabs.
