Has anyone made a v8 lid work in a v6, If so could you please tell me how.
K&N is very overpriced. I bought the Cook Blue filter instead. As far as the housing, take the lid off you filter, along with the ribbed rubber neck and a few dimensions you wrote down, into Home Depot or Lowes and head to the plumbing department. A length of 3" PVC and a couple of black rubber pipe connectors with clamps and you are good to go. When back home take a grinder to the underside of the lid and remove the fins. Remove the air silencer, and using the hardware you bought, connect the lid to the throttle body. Because your car has a straight throttle body, this is a fairly easy fab. All for about $15 at Depot.

In my 98 V6 the air lid output is not straight with the intake manifold and it use a flexible tube to attach it. I understand that in 99-02 firebirds it was corrected, you can take a look at your car and see if its straight. The difference in the V8 and V6 air lid is that the output on the V6 is a little to the right. You can use a V8 air lid, but the output of the air lid will not be straight with the manifold intake, so you will need a flexible tube or a curve tube to adapt it to the manifold. Take a look to a photo of my V6 intake (unfortunately Right now I don't have a photo from the top), http://www.firebirdnation.com/forums/index.php?app=gallery&module=images&section=viewimage&img=9435 .

I found a used Whisper lid! Do i need to do anything such as tuning, My car is stock besides the lid and K n N replacement filter.

Any change on the intake will take the MAF curve out of calibration, but if you are planing to do more changes wait until all its completed to do the tune.

Tuning can be expensive but there are options. You can take your car to a Dyno tune (you can go to one near and ask how much it cost), or send your ECM to one of several companies on the web so they tune it for your options (this could be the more economic), or buy a program like HPTuner and tune it yourself (this also requires you to learn how to tune).

When the whisper lid is put on will it make the check engine light come on due to the MAF curve being out of calibration? Like Ivan had said.

Wow, this is an absolutly fantastic thread for a rookie!!! I can't fix a ham sandwhich but this looks like something I can handle as well. Silly question what is MAF?

Mass Airflow Sensor

It is critical because it measures the air input and tells the ECU how much fuel to deliver for proper combustion.

Sorry but I don't remember said (or write) that a MAF curve out of calibration will make the engine light come on. Whatever you change in the intake will affect the MAF calibration and will improve performance once its calibrated.

You can drive it just fine with stock settings with a Whisper Lid. I drove mine for about 3 years before doing any other tuning. It improves flow and you'll get smoother air delivery.

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT remove the maf screen. It is needed to keep the airflow smooth over the MAF sensor. You don't want erratic readings while at WOT

I was going to say...I honestly don't know of anybody who did a ECM tune for a simple CAI.

I agree with the MAF screen. Nice bird color...
