I rencently purchased this 77 T/A and was wondering about the valve covers. It has the W72 (Y6) performance package, but painted valve covers. Didn't some engines get chrome valve covers from the factory? Or was that just earlier years.

The wc coded 400 offered in the w72 performance package did come with satin chrome valve covers on top of 6X4 heads. Check out this link. Lots of interesting stuff here.
