Looked into it last year, Total cost will be 3500+, depending on where you got your tranny from. I was contemplating the T56, but once I mapped out the gear ratios, a THO-600 will be cheaper, and less shifting when used with a Pontiac engine. See, the T56 has closer ratios, and that coupled with Poncho's meaty tourque, and lower reving(than a SBC, LS1) you will end up rowing the gears alot. 1st and 6th in a T56 with 4:11 rears are about the same as 1st and 5th with 3:55 rear in a TKO-600. So, same gear spread, less shifting. You loose time on the track shifting.

I have a little program just for calculating gear ratios. Got al the popular Firebird swaps. Check it out Gear Calculator
where does the THO-600 come out of??what car??

Fred's got it right. ONly way to get a TKO-500 or TKO-600 is from Classicchevy5speed.com or Keislerauto.com. There are a couple others too. But its not stock on any car. Beefed up to handle 500 and 600Ft-Lbs Tq respectively.

And I do belive the above nemtined companies have T56 swap parts too. Some problems I know are shifter will not be in proper location and I think Transmission tunnel needs some slight massaging to fit a T56
So, Fred and Dan, you mean that those companies take Tremec T5s and rebuild them with stouter components or do they make them from scratch??
