I have a 98 firebird v6 base. I have 235 60 16 tires on the car. The front tires are very worn now and one of those have a nail too, so it's time to change them. As I checked out for the car the 215 60 16 tires are the default. So which one should I go for? Thanks

I think most cars have traditionally come with the same tires on all 4 corners. But, most gearheads have always run smaller tires on the front. They probably got this idea from drag racing cars. But, for street use the super small tires are not the best idea for fast cornering, or wet roads.

And, if the front tires are different from the rear, you can't rotate from front to back. So, there are advantages to running larger front tires. :smile22:

If you have never had the speedometer/odometer recalibrated in the PCM, your speedo and odo are reading incorrectly. Not a large difference.... 3.5% error. At a true 60 MPH your speed is only indicating 58 MPH. And for every 1,000 miles you drive, the odo is only adding 965 miles.

You could use 235/55-16 (26.1" diameter) all around and solve all your issues. There were two possible stock tire sizes for the V6:

215/60-16 (26.1")

235/55-16 (26.1")

The 235/60-16 (27.1") is 1" oversize.

Typo Fred? You meant 235/60-16 = 27.1", right?

Correct. Typing on a phone is a PITA.

[EDIT 01-03-16] .....and I guess it doesn't matter, since he hasn't signed back into the site since his initial post, three weeks ago.
