Hi everyone,

I just picked up a 2000 WS6, it had no radio when I purchased it. I put an aftermarket radio in but not getting any sound. I started looking and found there is no amp and no wiring going to the right rear speaker or where the amp should be. Everything else seems to be there and connected. Do I need an amp to get any sound, any recommendations on an amp? Thoughts on where to start. Thanks in advance.

Best thing to do would be to download the 2000 factory service manual, (free) courtesy of GaryDoug:

Then check your car's Service Parts label, to see what the RPO code is for your radio. The list of RPO codes for the various "entertainment systems" is on page 0-16.

Then find the schematic for the radio in your car. I suspect you have the 10-speaker system shown on pages 8-277 to 8-279. That will show you how the amplifier fits into the system. It appears the front (2) tweeters are driven from the radio, and everything else - rear (2) tweeters, front (2) and rear (2) mid-range, and (2) sub-woofers - are driven from the amplifier.

Whether you can duplicate the factory amp with an aftermarket device is not clear to me. Might just need to find a used factory amp.

Make sure you are looking in the right place for the Monsoon amp, just ahead of the spare tire/wheel. If it is not there and you see one large loose cable, then it was probably removed. The amp drives all speakers except the 4 tweeters, one in each front door and one in each side of that hatch area. To make the other speakers work you would have to either get another amp or bypass the wiring at the amp cable connector. The original speakers (except tweeters) had a definite lifespan that has passed many years ago, so those may be bad also.

Thanks for the help, I'm just going to run new wires with the new head unit and add an aftermarket amp. Appreciate the advice.
