i have a 1993 firebird formula lt1. i want to make my 350 lt1 a 383 stroker that produces nothing under 600 wrhp. the only problem i have is i don't know the proper set up to go with. could some one help with a parts and specs list. i know that this is a lot to ask, but this will be greatly appreciated. this is my first f body build and the engine and tranny is at 116,000 miles. i am redoing everything from front to back, even the suspension. money is not a problem i just dont want to spend it on the wrong things. also if you dont know but know some one who does please refer me to them i am in the nashville,tn area

Welcome to Firebird Nation!

Are you looking for 600+ rear wheel HP with a normally aspirated engine, or with a power adder like a supercharger, turbo, or nitrous?

Is you budget in the range of $20,000-25,000?

600HP at the rear wheels, naturally aspirated, it a huge undertaking. There is no "kit" for a build like that. You need to contact a shop that has an exceptional knowledge of the LT1 engine and has built similar setups. 600HP at the rear wheels can only be done with the SB2.2 heads from a NASCAR engine. They will have to be converted to fit on the LT1's reverse flow cooled block. It's been done.

If that's what you are after, in all honesty, $30,000 isn't enough. For running on the track, you will need an NHRA inspected and certified full roll cage, an NHRA competition license, the car will need a parachute, etc. You will need a modified TH400 trans. You will need a chrome moly driveshaft, and a 9-inch rear axle. Subframe connectors will need to be integrated with the roll cage. Full race suspension from a shop like Spohn Performance. I refer you to NHRA rules, because a car with that kind of HP is virtually useless on the street. I've got 800HP/800lb-ft at the flywheel, and it is only useful on a track.

Look at this thread from CamaroZ28.com:

Then contact the owner who built the car, and the people at Second Street Speed in Perkasie PA, which is the shop doing the tune. I doubt there is anyone on this site who can give you a parts list. It's way beyond my knowledge or capabilities.

Thanks for the great information Fred. That's a lot of power, way more than a street car can handle. Do it right, do it safe.

It's a rare day when Fred doesn't have all the answers to a 4th gen perfomance/build question.

I've seen some truly awesome 4th Gens, and they are not cheap. Buddy of mine wasn't happy with the 1,125 flywheel HP from his 383ci LT1 w/ Vortech S/C, in a Camaro 30th SS convertible. (He let me drive it on the street, with the warning "if you wreck it I'll kill you"

)...... So he upped the ante with a 1,350HP 383ci Gen 1 SBC (Dart Iron Eagle block, Brodix heads, Vortech centrifugal S/C that was as big as a 1/2 keg). Ran low 8's at close to 170 MPH. (No, he never let me drive that one.) I'd say he had $80,000 in the final version.

But he did use the rear springs from my 94 Formula, because someone told him they were the best choice. So.... part of my car has run in the low 8's....

I personally could not tell you how to build a 600 rear wheel HP naturally aspirated LT1. I showed you a link to someone who does know how, and has done so, and suggested you contact him. That's about all I can do.
