OBD2 to OBD1 to support new heads/cam

Hey Guys ..

So as mentioned in another post, the loud noise I was hearing was a bad lifter, which then messed up the cam. I'm using this opportunity to the the LE2 heads, ported intake and emissions cam. In speaking with Lloyd and remember conversations on this and other boards, it will require tuning.

My questions are ...
1. am I better off keeping the original OBD2 PCM and having PCM4Less send me a tune ? .... OR
2. swapping to an OBD1 PCM and having that programmed? Are there any issues/problems with this?

Is there more work than just the PCM swap .... I've been lead to believe that its just that easy... swap one for the other and they will remote in and program. I keep thinking if its too good to be true .... there usually is something else ...

your thoughts and experiences are appreciated.

Doesn’t California connect to the PCM for emissions? I don’t think they will accept a change to the OBD-1 PCM.

Do not use pcmforless. Use Moe Bailey. He does excellent mail-order tunes, specially with known components like LE. The CA emissions is probably going to be a challenge for whoever tunes it, unless you can find someone in CA to dyno tune it.

I can give you contact info.

Hey Fred ... I seem to recall they do .. and I might call the one I go to, to confirm...

yes please pass along contact info ...

I was told the car is undrivable after its all put back together ... so maybe a mail order tune and then a dyno tune??
i actually think I found it with a Google search ...

He tunes some of the top LT1 cars.

The above is from a post dated 2017, so might have changed. The email is correct. The prices were from a "New Years Special" offer, so they will be different,
Thanks Fred ... I actually found one of your post on another site and then found/confirmed the email address. I sent him an email this morning.. Appreciate the form. Hopefully he can be my solution
