I own a 80 firebird with a 301 v8. auto I have owned it for about 10 years but trials and tribulations haven't allowed me to make my restoration come to fruition. But time to get back on track and build my Bird. I want to swap my 301 for a 400 or sbc and basically build a custom original sleeper. My car is rough but its mine. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I vote for the Pontiac 400. There are already enuff sbc powered Pontiacs, in the world. IMO Yes, I realize opinions differ.

A 350, 400, or 455 will make a big improvement in power, over the 301. And the Motor mounts you have will also work on the larger Pontiac engines. There are LOTS of Pontiac engine options nowadays, limited only by your budget. :yes
