I think you are better off with the 2 barrel carb. more gas does not equal more power. Your engine has two barrel heads with small valves. You might end up hating a quadrabog. Lots of circle track cars use 2 barrel carbs. they work great when properly tuned.My experience with this is my first car was a 73 malibu 350 2 barrel, I added dual exhaust and a new quadrajet on a stock intake. My father told me to not expect much gain because of the small valve heads, but I wanted a 4 barrel carb. so we did the swap and the car wasn't faster but it burned more gas.
 
I just have a difference in opinion, other techs will agree with me and some with you. I have formal automotive training from GM, I attended the ASEP at Brookhaven Community College in 1990-1992. Thats why I said my two cents.
