I've read that having the "happy hooker" attachment for your cherry picker makes it a lot easier to pull engine from top.

Having said that, 4th gen was designed to have engine/ trans/ K-member with complete suspension come out from the bottom. If you need a good write up with pics about the out the bottom method, pm me with your e-mail address. I'll send the pdf file to you.

Note that the factory manual describes the process in painful detail, and you can download the factory manuals in a link at the top of the Fourth Generation forum.

On the other hand, I had the shop that built my engine pull it out the top, so the car would still have the front suspension and could be towed to an indoor storage facility so it wouldn't sit outside while they were building the engine.

Not mine, but a buddy we were helping.....
