Today marks the 100th birthday of John Wayne, Born Marion Robert Morrison in Winterset, Iowa May 26, 1907. Often called "the Duke" he acted in 175 films of all varieties. Most famous were his Westerns.

Depending on your point of view, he is and always will be one of the true demographic Americans. He enlightened us on USO tours, his charisma and patriotic charge in war movies gave the American people hope, and his character in Westerns and domestic films inspired even the most critical film buff. In some places, he's even been called a 'Heroe'.

He's always my favorite. Down the street from my mom there's a house that has a life-size standup picture thing of him in his cowboy outfit that sits in the window. It always freaks me out to see John Wayne looking out someone's window with his gun drawn like he's about to have a gunfight with somebody. I guess it would make a great anti-break in device.
