How do I replace a 'theft proof' radio in a 2002 bird?

Lights quit working on my radio so I found a same stock radio out of a wrecked bird that only had 13,000 miles on it. Got the radio for 5 bucks but then someone said you cantjust take the original out and swap. Some code or somethjing has to be done?

Each radio has an internal security system. If the owner has activated the security system, there is a 4-digit code that is required to activate the radio after battery power has been lost. If the radio you bought is asking for a code, there are places on the internet (not GM authorized) where you can access dealer software to reset the code. I haven't seen a reference to a source in may years.

@1993TransAm is our Delco radio expert. Most likely he can help.
I think the point is that you won’t know if you need a code unless you power it up.
