I have a 67 bird with a 400 hood and a 68 style hood tach. When i bought it the previous owner said tach worked but quit. I have a stock GM style HEI distributor. He had a glass style inline fuse on the tach wire. Afraid it probably burned up.. I'm sure i'm not the only one with this setup. Questioned some of the big pontiac suppliers about their hood tachs that are supposedly compatable with HEI. They are saying i need the Mallory 29078 tach adaptor at a tune of $160 plus the new tach. Any Thoughts? Just trying to get my bird sorted out. Thank You

I had a hood tach on my T/A for a couple years. When I restored the car about 5 years ago I took it off. However, when I had the tach I just connected it to the TACH terminal on the HEI. A hot, a ground and a wire for the light. I didn't use a fuse, or any kind of tach signal conditioner.
