Thanks for the kind thoughts, everyone.
Another birthday is sort of a mixed bag. The time is coming when I'll have to give up my car, just due to old age. I'm young at heart, but old in years. At present, I'm well past retirement age, but I still work a 5-1/2 day, 60 hour week. It leaves no time at all for my car. It would cost a huge amount to upgrade and recertify all the "expired" SFI-rated parts, the harness, my helmet, etc. to pass NHRA tech, get it fully checked over, injectors cleaned, check the tune. It's capable of running 9's, but I don't have a chute, don't have a full NHRA certified cage, don't have an NHRA competition license. More money.
Seems overwhelming. I'm at the point where I wouldn't mind working on it, and I wouldn't mind driving it a bit. And I think I could go to the track.... but sometimes I wonder if I'm just fooling myself. A friend of mine told me he knows someone who wants to buy it. If the price was right, I might consider.
Bittersweet.
But thanks! I count the friends I've made here as very valuable, and as long as I can help, I'll be here. I do question the comment that I'm "patient".... sometimes I lose it. But then what do you expect from a grumpy ol' man
