Got another boat

As a few of you know, I have been traveling under 10 MPH on the water in my small sailboat for decades. Well.. with my 70th b-day looming, I got another "mid"-life crisis and bought a faster boat. More like 55 MPH+ with a 5.7L Mercruiser. Would have bought another Trans Am if they still made any. I told my wife that I blame this on GM.

Very nice.... retirement must be treating you very well! How about we swap in an LT1? There are marine versions available :D
An LT1 in the bilge of an open boat with water sloshing around...what could possibly go wrong ;-)

Naturally, I already ordered the OBD cable and program for it.

Nice boat. ...color me jealous. :)
Great looking boat. Nice to see a retired person that isn't afraid to go over 20 mph.

As a few here may know, you can't leave an inboard-outboard boat in salt water for long before major corrosion occurs, so you have to get it out of the water some way. I just spent almost a month partially tearing down my old rotting boathouse and rebuilding it to put in a boat lift. It was easily the hardest physical job ever for me, and I'm an old f**t too. It's just now functional and the boat is safe;-) Now I can take my time finishing it.

Of course I am on a few boating forums as well now.

i am wondering, since you use your boat in salt water, do you have to flush the cooling system out after taking boat for a ride?
Yes, that is highly advisable. I have always done that even with fresh water use. On this boat I will also be using the Salt-Away product during flush-out.

The danger to an inboard-outboard is the external corrosion, since the drive unit cannot be raised/tilted up above the water.
Very nice!

When is the best time to visit? :D

Can I bring my oldest son? He lives in Cooperstown NY and he's digging out from under 36" of snow from Tuesday's storm. :D. Fringe benefit.... he is the Innovation Manager for Brewery Ommegang, and always brings along lots of samples.
Most important thing is to always make sure your zincs are good and that your dock is well grounded. Very cool to see this forum has some fellow active boaters!

Wow..how did I miss this????? Entertain friends and drink unlimilted beer? I must have dementia..... Wife affirms that. Of course you came come anytime.
My son has moved on from brewing beer….. now he's at Cooperstown Distillery……. Samples are harder to get ☹
I have a 7.4 Mercruiser in my 24' Hurricane deck boat and use it strictly at the lower Colorado river ( fresh water only ). Believe it or not there is a lot of salt in this river. The water cooled exhaust manifolds are the weak point of corrosion on these engines. Rinse the cooling system religiously, some people actually inject a small amount of oil in the cooling system after each use. After 1200 hours my mannies need replaced in fresh water only use. The Bravo outdrives will take massive abuse as long as they are maintained.
