I would like to add the front speakers the way you did in this post. The problem is My car is missing the front speaker, A previous owner removed the speaker. Any ideas where I can get an old speaker for th emodification? Or am I limited to getting the dual speaker packeges from Year One or NPD

Check ebay, you can find used ones there usually. I also have had luck with craigslist. If you can not find one let me know, I will see what I can find for you. Keep in mind that an old used speaker would be useless without the bracket that attaches to the bottom of it.

You can also make a new bracket out of sheet metal or ply wood. Other guys on the net have done it. You can also request one in the wanted section in forums like this one. Or TAC or Hitman's forum to name a few others. BTW Dan, How have you been? I have not been on here for a while. I apologize for going off topic in advance!

Very kind of you to ask Ron. I have been hanging in there. Very glad to see you back on, been a while.

This little tip for the speakers came in very handy. I couldn't be any more happier with the front speaker setup.

Douglas, Ron has a very good ideas about how to achieve this with different techniques. He is a very knowledgeable person and I would have never thought about doing this until he brought this up. I was just lucky to have the whole speaker and bracket in mine so I didn't have to fab one up.

I know this is an old thread but could not be happier running into it. The dual speaker retro sounds like a great idea that I will try. I ordered the retro sounds dual cone setup https://www.retromanufacturing.com/products/ultra-thin-dash-replacement-speaker-for-1970-81-pontiac-firebird-with-mono-factory-radio?_pos=2&_sid=75dceabe3&_ss=r&variant=31326201166 and just not happy with the mounting. Seems like it 2.25" from the top of the speaker (plastic mount) to the bottom of the coil. Having AC in my car makes it almost impossible to install over the center AC duct.
