I have a 1982 Firebird SE. It has the 2.8 v6.
I need to upgrade my exaust as mine is rusted out.
What suggestions can you make for a replacement.
Should I go to a higher flow cat?
Can I go with a duel exaust muffler?
Right now it has the stock single exaust muffler as well as the stock cat?
I am not planning on changing the motor as I bought this car for my 16 year old daughter.
Your suggestions/ ideas would be appreciated.

First question is; does your province in Canada do emission testing on 1982 models? If yes, your severely limited to your choices for new exhaust. Stock system would have to do.

If no emission testing for your car, then it brings up the next question. Do you plan on doing any mods to increase hp & torque? If no, I'd put a stock exhaust system on again.

If you plan on mods to engine then go with a cat back exhaust in stainless steel. That is if they make these for an 82 v-6 car. I'd also do long tube headers in stainless, again if they make these for a 82 v-6.

Thanks for your informative reply. I do not intend to make many mods to the car. I will probably just stick with the stock exaust then. After getting this 82 for my daughter I have decided to look for a gen 3 Firebird for myself. I will not be getting one with a 2.8 ☺
