Car dies while driving

I have an 85 firebird stock 305/automatic and when I drive it it loses power and dies on me like it runs out of gas even though I have gas in the tank. If I put a little more gas in the tank or in the carb it usualy starts back up then runs great. New fuel pump and filter and freshly rebuilt carb btw.

There is a filter sock on the end of the pick up tube in gas tank. At 30 years old it could be clogged.
