The Mustang turned left onto the road that I was going to turn onto--I turned right. Caught up to him at a stoplight about 1/2 mile from where we both entered the 4 lane road.
He pulled into my lane at the last possible second so that I was behind him--there was no one in front of us. When the light turned green, he got into the loud pedal...sort of (I guess, as I was already climbing thru his back bumper and had to back out of it). I short shifted into 2nd, throwing off my power curve a bit, then he gets on it, really gets on it. I did, too! Started to catch up from about 2 car lengths back, put on my right turn signal and moved into the right lane to pass. Short shifted at 6,000 rpm into 3rd and flew by him like he was standing still. We both went fast enough that a shift to 4th was necessary and the speedometer had to have been around 110. At that point he was maybe two to three car lengths behind and losing ground really fast. Let's just say he was in my rear view mirror.
Shifted into 5th and put on the brakes hard to get to a legal speed. He did, too.
Yup, he had a 5 spd, could hear his shifts when I was behind.
We both were stopped at the next light. Heh, heh, heh...he didn't even look at me, then made a right turn off the road. I guess he will think differently about an almost 11 year old Firebird next time he sees one.
Wonderful day so far. Did 21 miles on the bicycle, whupped a new Mustang GT and found a penny on the sidewalk. Life is good!
