I am looking at buying a 1982 Pontiac trans am it had a 305 but the trans is out. I have read it came with a 200c and I am wondering if a th350 will be a direct fit.

Not100% sure on this, but I think 200 series & 350 series are a different length. Doesn't mean the 350 can't be swapped. It just wouldn't be a drop in & go deal.
Imo, the 700r4 would be a better choice. With it you'd have overdrive. Plus, since later 3rd gens came with 700r4, it will be easy to find the parts needed for the swap. Keep in mind tha3rd gen camaros used the same setup as firebird.
