OK guys Im looking for advice on how I should handle this progect. The car is a 1971 Base Model Firebird with matching numbers 350 engine and a turbo 350 trans. The body is virtualy rust free with the exception of one 1/2 inch spot in the passenger front windsheild frame and the floor of the trunk. The engine runs great, i was able to get it running with a simple tune up after it had been abandoned for at least 3 years.
But the car overall needs alot of work, everything in the interior needs replaced and possibly new wiring harness due to the blinker and brake wires melted inside the steering colums and i had to rig up some wiring in order to move it from its abandoned spot. It also needs a new paint job and front windshield repalced, as well as the rear wing replaced because someone had tried to prying on it thinking it was the trunk opening i suppose. My plan is to scrap the current hood and replace it with a ram air hood from a formula car and make the ram air functional as well. Replace the entire interior and paint.
Overall cost i estimated to be 10-15k But i have a three way split on the build, is the car going to be worth building as a base model? and if so, should i keep the original engine or upgrade to a 400 to make a formula clone? Keep in mind i do not plan on keeping the car 100% original, the interior will be reproduction products with a aftermarket racthet shifter and gauges, also considering changing it to a 4 speed manual.
