I don't think anyone is avoiding helping you. Your question is very specific, requiring a response from someone who owns a 403 Olds, has had it rebuilt, and possibly rebuilt in close proximity to North Carolina. Maybe no members meet that requirement. And it's really not appropriate to try and make this a political issue, or bring up CoVid. They have nothing to do with this.

JEG's sells rebuilt 403's:

(I have no knowledge of the quality of ATK rebuilds)

This outfit in South Carolina seems to claim they can rebuild anything:

Located in Texas, but there's always shipping:

The above are just examples of what is out there.

I would also suggest that this thread should be moved to the "Second Generation" forum, rather than being left here on "Introductions and Staff Photos". I can move it if you agree.

You were immediately given a suprisingly large list of engine builders in North Carolina. Have you tried to contact any of them to ask about your Olds 403? ...what did they say?

You're in NASCAR Country, every engine builder in the state probably knows that engine inside out and is more than competent enough to do whatever you need. You just need to make a few phone calls, check reviews/references, and decide. ...like everybody else. Even if someone did make a recommendation, it would be extremely ignorant to just go with that recommendation without first making a few phone calls and checking the builders reviews/references anyway. Businesses change hands every day. The shop someone recommends might not be the shop they are today.

Reviews are your friend. Read them.

Also, keep in mind, since that is not a Pontiac engine you're not limited to Pontiac forums for advice on the engine, so, have you tried any Oldsmobile forums?

Now that is sound advice. Ask me how I know. Though in my case, none of the lawsuits nor poor experiences were published at the time I had my work done even if I had looked so it wouldn’t have saved me but still….

We all started out as rookies.

There have been several people, forum admins included that have replied to your post. There have been a couple of replies that provided you names of machine shops in your area. We would have no idea what parts they have stockpiled in their shops for rebuilds or what parts they are having trouble sourcing. That's something only they would be able to tell you.

There are some limitations on the performance gains with any engine. The era of your car was among the lowest HP and torque produced by auto manufacturers. You said you wanted to keep the stock engine but what type of build were you asking the machine shops to do? Did you want a rebuilt to stock engine or a 1000 hp beast?

I don't know of any specific clubs in your area since I don't live there. You could try POCI.org to see if there are any area Pontiac chapters.

But like Zump suggested, you have access to more engine builders in the vicinity than any other area of the country. If the first few aren't interested, keep trying. There will be someone interested in the work. But if it's anything like here, there may be a wait to get work done.

Hope this helps.

You live in the US. If you can't build a 403 or find someone that can, things will be tough for everything else. Or get it built in a country where engine guys don't know what an Oldsmobile or 403 is and have no access to parts except via the US, but at least Biden isn't there purposely putting out orders on specifics of 403 rebuilds to be ignored.

Let's close this thread. “jhbluban79” is no longer a member here. He launched a very personal, insulting attack on me in response to my post, above. The other Admins decided it was time for him to depart.
