Hey guys,

just starting some kind of a build thread,

bought a few days ago a 97 bird with the 3.8 , Y87 code, black with grey interiors, t-top and manual tranny.

i love it, but it needs major works,

i already left it in a body shop because the previous owner hit a pole coming out of a corner (yup he spun, and he hugghed the pole with a door...).

it has some rust all over the under carriage.

interiors are in pieces, i need a lot of interior parts (gonna open a thread soon) starting from the upper part of the dash (the one that faces the windshiels, to sun visors, radio, ebrake bezel, radio and so on.

i also need to do a full tune up with new fluids.

only mod is the alluminum DS

if you want to follow me on youtube this is my channel (no bird yet on it)

and insta

238000ish km

any input is much appreciated

thanks!

Hi guys,

probably on sunday i'll be going to a track day (raceway, not drag strip).

any last minute speed tricks? what to check out? what are good values for caster, camber and toe?

thanks
Hi guys,
Just installed stiffer rear shocks, and opened up the toe a lil bit

Hi guys,
in Post number 73 I shared my attempt to restore the body (after a serious hail storm and some more body damage due to as*holes who can't drive). Paint ended up pretty bad.
Yesterday I tried that wet sanding process.
I over did it a lil bit, creating some white spots, but came out pretty nice though. waht do you think?

any advice to address those spots?

I've been painting cars since 1971. When painters switched to high volume low pressure ( HVLP ) spray guns, the amount of orange peel in paint jobs skyrocketed. This is because the HVLP spray guns don't atomize the air/paint mixture worth a s**t.

Buy an old fashined high pressure spray gun. They atomize the air/paint mixture into very fine droplets that don't cause a bunch of orange peel. When I use a high pressure spray gun, I never have to sand and polish a paint job.

Yes, a high pressure spray gun uses more paint, but I've found that when using a HVLP spay gun, you have to put twice the coats of paint on the car so when you sand & buff the paint job, there will be a thick enough coating left on the car.

Tip on bushing removal from suspension control arms. Use a propane torch to burn out the old bushings. When you hear a loud pop, old bushing can be driven out much easier.

i always wanted a higher rear spoiler,

what do you think about this one?

https://www.bodykits.com/i-24371398-pontiac-firebird-wings-west-w-type-lower-spat-right-rear-890189r.html

trans am one is obiviously better looking, but it's impossible to find in here in italy and shipping cost from the us for the whole deck/trunk/rear glass/spoiler assembly is just crazy.
yesterday i installed new tires, the ones i was running were absolutely toast from my stupid "driving style" lol.

it's got a good handling now though:

current mods are, bigger sway bars (30mm front, 19 rear), stiffer shocks, lowering springs, boxed track bar, and poly bushings everywhere (still need to do the front arms and torque arm).
Tires make all the difference. I found a brand/model that let me dump the clutch at 80% throttle in the wet and still pull a hole-shot. Next time around to save $50 total I got the next model down. ...and now had a tire that required zero-throttle second gear starts in the wet and still could spin if I came off the clutch a little fast. Braking is reduced, and the weaker sidewalls see a lot of scrubbing and offer up a tons of understeer in return as well. NEVER skimp on tires. You can put $30,000 into your chassis and brakes and the wrong tires will negate every penny of it.

yeah, tires help a lot.

issue is that i drive like a complete idiot so i usually buy pre-owned tires. i have a guy who sells them and he keeps for me all the good ones.

can't afford to buy new tires avery time lol
hey guys,

jeep is taking all my free time. after the accident i'm rebuilding so much shi* i! fuc*, it's getting me insane.

i'm hoping to get more jobs done on my DD pontiac soon enough.

also in italy, we are still in half-lock-down-shi* which really pisses me off.
Might want to tone down the language.
sorry, getting mad lately
Hi guys, pontiac is running fine, still my DD

here a couple of videos of cammed 360 jeep:

i know i'm OT, what do you think?
i'm holding back on some work on the pontiac due to jeep major issues, i granaded the jeep's tranny.

firebird needs new u-joints, new coolant (and full system flush), rust job, ac compressor and condenser ecc...
