Traction control was optional. Look at the service parts identification label for RPO code "NW9". If it doesn't have that code, you don't have traction control.

The panel to the left of the cigarette light was used for:

- convertible top switch (auto trans convertibles only)

- second gear start switch (V6 cars with auto trans only)

- traction control switch (if option NW9 is present)

There is no "sport mode" option. Earlier V8 models with auto trans had a "performance" button to make the shifts more aggressive.

It's entirely possible that a standard wiring harness was used in all cars, and the unused connectors are present.

Do you have the Owner's Manual for your car? If not, go here:

Also, looking at the diagrams of the consoles in the 1997 Camaro and Firebird Owner's Manuals, the diagrams both show the same consoles, with the cig lighter just to the right of the switch panel. But both console diagrams are for the auto trans consoles. Maybe the manual trans console is different in that respect. Or, it is possible someone simply moved the cig lighter over under the cup holder, so they could alter the opening for the switch panel as mentioned above. The lighter could be moved simply by drilling a new hole.

Looks very good. But is the short piece of the body side molding missing on the fender?

LT1 style Ram Air (WS6) hood was only available 1996/1997. The optional package was available on both the Formula and Trans Am.

The real GM inserts for 96/97 are hard to find, and expensive. Hawks has one (only) for the driver side and asking $124.

I saw someone selling 96-97 "chrome" versions for $90 a pair. They could be sprayed with flat black to look more authentic. But I can't find the link.

The grilles for 1998-2002 are easy to find, but are a different shape, and have a hole on each end for screws. No screws on 1996-1997. They have tabs that snap into the notches on the hood.

^^^^^ THIS ^^^^^

The orange factory shocks were made by deCarbon, and considered to be very good quality. But it's not reasonable to assume after 270,000 KM over 25 years that they are going to be in perfect shape.

According to Wiki - de Carbon was an independent company in France until Delphi (an "on and off" affiliate of GM) bought the company in 1997. The Chinese (Beijing West Industries) gained control of the Delphi's brake and suspension divisions including de Carbon in 2009. Who knows what the quality is now?
