Ok I know I have the 10 speaker option in mine and I'm trying to find full information on it most specifically what the radio itself looks like so I can look for the right one. Anyone have a link to specs and pics of the equipment?

As noted, there are pictures of the faceplates in the Owner's Manual. Look at pages:

117 - AM/FM Stereo w/ Cassette Player and 5-band graphic equalizer

120 - AM/FM Stereo w/ CD Player and 5-band graphic equalizer

Note that these head units have a "Theft-Deterrent" feature. If the previous owner activated the system, you need their code to allow the unit to operate. There are ways around this, but you have to go to a dealer, or track down a site on the Internet that has a link to GM, with a dealer code.

The 93 appearance is unique to that year. In 94 they changed the appearance. So it's going to be hard to find an exact match to the 93. 1993TransAm will know if the 10-speaker head units from other years than 93 will plug & play on your 93. I have my original head unit (removed it many uyears ago), but its the cassette version, which I doubt anyone really wants.

You know, this really just doesn't surprise me. I seem to always manage to get the oddball car in some way shape or form. Even the regular cars I get that you see a million of, they always have some oddball aspect that I didn't see coming...

1993TransAm (aka Simon) will be able to answer this question for sure. I suspect that the 94-02 radios will work just fine, and those are plentiful and fairly cheap used. Seems like I remember the only thing that is different is the hookup for the automatic antenna.

Try car-part.com to search for year specific head units.

1995-2002 Firebird head units will interchange. You likely have steering wheel controls. Those will not work properly with 1995-2002 head units.

1994 head units will not work in your car.

I think my biggest concern is with it having the 10 speaker option, do I have an amp in the car, and will another head unit run all the speakers (even aftermarket)? I'm not expecting the steering wheel controls to work and truthfully, the wheel controls I could do without. They don't currently work and one button has fallen off. I could really care less about them. I just want to make sure my stereo will be able to handle the speakers installed (or that I'm working on ensuring are installed).

There is an amplifier in the car that powers the subwoofers in the sail panels.

An aftermarket head unit will work fine.

All right. I'll have to start combing through the stereo now. I'm thinking the right panel is either missing or disconnected, the two rear speakers aren't there at all but the wires are. I'll start looking for everything and piecing that back together as I work on my interior.

Yep, the PO did an absolute hack job on the wiring for at LEAST one speaker. I'll be hunting down issues for a bit with this one it would appear. Hopefully I can get it all straight with little to no issue...

Bumping this old thread. Im finding myself in the same situation with my 93 TA. My RPO list calling out the U1A radio (CD w/ equalizer) that had been replaced with a newer GM CD player with no equalizer. It works meh...but I think my amp is gone and the steering wheel audio controls dont work obviously. My car also had the 10-speaker sound system. I would like to try and get this back to factory components if possible. Knowing this is an old thread, is there any new sources for these components? Also, where is that factory amp mounted in the car?

No. GM has long since moved past these systems and there is literally zero demand for these units so no one is going to make a "replacement".

I looked for years for the OEM cassette w/EQ specific to 1993. I could locate the 1994+ cassette and CD units easily enough but do NOT like the look of them. The cassette w/EQ unit in 1993 was actually an expensive option and only available as an option in three vehicles. One of those it was only an available option if you bought the top-spec model. ...so, not many out there to begin with. Probably easier to get the 1993 CD unit.

Ebay, car-part.com, craigslist, and car stereo shops are your only outlets for factory units. Good Luck!

Wonder if Injuneer still has his. I'm probably the only person in the country looking to downgrade to cassette. ;)

Followed a link farther up in the thread. No OEM unit for me, but... http://oem-auto-accessory.com/am_fm_cd_w_eq_pontiac_family_refurbished.html

also, here's one supposedly modified with Bluetooth: https://www.ebay.com/itm/PONTIAC-BONNEVILLE-TRANS-AM-GRAND-FMCD-DELCO-7-BAND-EQ-RADIO-BLUETOOTH-FEATURE-/283117550670

Think those are 1994 units tho but should work for you just fine. The main thing is if your radio is Monsoon or not. IF it is a Monsoon, the Amplifier is located in the spare tire well. 10 speakers does not mean amplified. I have 10 speakers, no factory amp. The head unit alone pushed all 10.

Thanks for the info. Found this on ebay:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/GM-RADIO-CD-PLAYER-iPod-AUX-3-5mm-82-92-PONTIAC-FIREBIRD-TRANS-AM-FIERO-DELCO/202573068190?hash=item2f2a4bb79e:g:7j8AAOSwh1paQ03W:sc:USPSPriority!61604!US!

This looks just like the U1A CD player as shown in the service manual section 9A.

I see now that Monsoon has two RPOs:

UL0 AM/FM Cassette ETR 200 Watt Monsoon Sound System w/cassette
UN0 AM/FM Cassette ETR 200 Watt Monsoon Sound System w/CD player

My RPO list has neither. So in that case, i'm happy to get my car back to the U1A CD with equalizer and drive those 10 speaker with that unit. If the unit above is that unit, I may jump on it. But looking for some confirmation that it is what I think it is.

I realize this thread is getting stale, but I will offer some clarification.

1993 Trans Ams did not have Monsoon systems. Monsoon systems did not arrive in Firebirds until 1997. The RPO codes of UL0 and UN0 you listed are Chevrolet Monsoon audio RPO codes as far as I know. Pontiac Monsoon audio RPO codes began with the letter "W."

The 1993 factory amplifier is what Delco labeled an "Active Audio Module," RPO code UW2, and is located behind the passenger side sail panel. The amplifier has a mounting tab that clips to a slot in the body of the car.

Tony (ZumpTA), to my knowledge there is no such thing as a non-amplified 10-speaker setup in the 1993 cars. Look at your Service Parts Identification label in your glovebox. I bet there is a UW2 code listed. The sail panel speakers are 3.2 ohm factory "subwoofers" that only reproduce low-frequency sounds. The factory amplifier is an active low-pass crossover for the sail panel speakers only. All other speakers in the car are powered directly by the head unit. The tweeters both in the front and rear have high-pass passive crossovers.

I think that pretty much covers everything.

Good luck in locating a factory CD player. They're pretty tough to find, let alone one that works, but they are out there. They look great in the car. :)
