Hi,

this is my first post.

when I got my car last year, she had 14" rally 2 wheels with tires (rear - 245/60/14 front - 195/70/14")

not sure if these are the right size tires, I want to have the biggest 14" tire that is possible without causing problems.

what are your experiences & recommendations?

Thanks,

JC

I like 14's on some cars because it gives a sort of "period correct" look to them. You should be careful about putting a tire that's too wide on the particular rims you have. If the tire is too wide for the rim width the tire will bulge and cornering performance will be reduced. You should stop by a tire shop and have them measure the rim width with a wheel caliper if you're not sure of the rim width. They don't need to dismount the tire but will need to remove the trim ring.

Back in the mid 70's I had 14" Pontiac rally's on a Camaro with the old tire sizing F 70 fronts and G 60 rears if I remember correctly. Pretty sure they were 14 X 7 rims from a GTO or something like that. Most of the 14" Rallys were 6" if I remember correctly. I've been building an 81 Malibu for several years with a kind of backdated look. I'm running 14" Chevy Rallys on it.

And that's what it'll get used for along with perhaps some auto X. I originally gave it a refresh and quick paint job back in the mid 90's and used it as a DD with the original 6 cyl drive train. 10 years later I did a more thorough body job along with new paint and this time it's getting a 10 bolt rear with 3.73 posi, 355 SBC I've been building, and a T-400. I've got a set of Centerlines sportin ET Streets with skinnys up front.for the strip and will probably run A6's for auto X. Have a full Hotchkis suspension with bags, full Flowmaster exhaust, and a bunch of other goodies ready to install. I've also gotta install a new Landau top but I've got to get my bird back on track first. I promised myself I won't project jump.

They used to be plentiful but around here they are actually getting hard to find in decent shape. I'd take a gutted one as long as it had straight sheet metal and was a solid roller. They are pretty light for their size.

I had a few of them when I lived up North. Had a nice 78? 305 bracket/street car but is wasn't fast enough to keep me entertained. I had the perfect 79 for you here a couple years ago and sold it cheap. I bought it as unfinished project and flipped it. At one point I had molds to make fiberglass hoods/decklids for those cars. I still keep an eye out for the old diesel G bodies hoping for the rare aluminum pieces.

Lets see some cool cars with 14's in this thread, I know they're out there!

I like the looks of the BFG white letter tires. They show a P245/60/14. Min rim width is 7". Widest part of the tire, on a 7" rim is 9.8". Diameter is 25.6".

You can buy some that are taller, and the 245/50/14 is wider, and shorter, and more expensive.
