Hey guys, i need some help. The brake lights on my 2001 Firebird go out very inconsistently. The third light always stays lit, but one of the two other lights will occasionally turn off. Neither side does it more than the other and all the bulbs are fine. My best answer is that it may be a bad turn signal switch or turn signal flasher, any advice or something i may be missing? Thanks

On a later model Firebird, the lower stop lights are wired in pairs (one pair for left and one pair for right. Notice if only one light is missing on the bad side. If so, the problem is most likely with the socket for that unlit lamp. If they go out in pairs (both lamps on the side are not lit) then the turn signal switch is a likely culprit. The flasher is not involved. The high-mounted stop light is on a completely separate circuit on a separate section of the stop light switch.

GaryDoug- both lights will go out on whatever side is affected when it happens. So its the switch and not the flasher then?
