This Pontiac Firebird 400 is VIN #001 from the Pontiac Van Nuys Assembly and comes from a private collection. The car was built on September 19, 1968, and shipped to a California dealer, Nelson Pontiac, in El Monte, CA. It was to be used as an auto show display vehicle kept on the West Coast, but was never turned back into Pontiac and the dealer kept it for himself. The car came well-equipped with the 400ci engine package, Turbo Hydramatic transmission, power steering and power brakes. It also came equipped with air conditioning, tilt column with simulated wood steering wheel, Rally II wheels, red line tires, remote trunk release, shoulder harness belts, headrests, gauges with clock, deluxe interior and about every option available for 1969. It was frame-off restored and given a fresh coat of the correct Verdoro Green (code QQ), using nothing but the best materials. The correct and original matching-numbers engine and transmission were also rebuilt.
