Got a kinda beat up 2002 convert with a bad manifold gasket for $1,800. Has side ground effects package and dual exhaust. Did stock 3.8 non trans ams come like that?

I'd check the RPO sticker on driver door. You can look up RPO's online. This should telly you if these items were factory.

Also look at the dual exhaust setup. I believe the factory cars had dual exhaust outlets but were single exhaust most of the way from y pipe to muffler.

No base V6's or Formulas had ground effects.  The side ground effects came in at least two GM produced versions - the ones that were used only on all the T/A’s, and a slightly different version in a dealer installed “GT” kit.  Maybe the W68 option for the V6 had some stick ons too.  Then there were aftermarket kits ranging from decent quality to cheap Chinese junk.

As noted above, all 4th Gens had a single exhaust past the rear axle, into a cross-flow muffler that typically had a single outlet for the V6 cars and dual outlets for the V8’s and Y87.

Interesting---I made a mistake its a 2001 not 2002. Im going to take photos of this thing. I dont think the big single chrome exhaust tips look factory.
