I am a new member and would like to say high to all of you.
I have had my 1980 Transam since new. it is a 4.9 automatic. I drove it for the first 11 years and then put it away after my daughter was born in 1991. I cried when I had to put a car seat in the back :-)
It has been started and driven around the block periodically for the past 30 years . the car had started to have some issues just sitting there i.e. oil pan leak, transmission pan leak, power steering leek, belts and hoses old, original exhaust with muffler and CAT was falling apart. I decided to get most of all the problems repaired with a friend in the past 3 months.
I have attached a picture of it. there is no rust on it as it has been stored always in a garage.
I have one issue outstanding: rebuilt the carb, and replaced the kickdown cable. transmission is having a hard time shifting into 2nd and third. I can shift it manually but the revs go passed 3500 to 4000 before it shifts automatically Red TA-1.jpg 66.64KB 2 downloads. once it shifts it shifts up and down OK.
I will reach out to the forum to see what the problem may be and see how to fix it. it was shifting OK before the carb fix and the transmission gasket replacement and the kickdown cable replacement.
Thanks for letting me join this forum and group.
