Does anyone have an alternative to self-drilling sheet metal screws? My aftermarket gear shifter boot uses several of these, and they work fine, but they're not the most attractive fastener. I don't mind them in other areas where they're not as noticeable.

If the hole is there and it is "threaded" already, you can put any screw you want in there. Go to the hardware store with one of your screws and browse the fastener aisle until you find what you are looking for. Or go online! The choices are unlimited.

Ah, ok, I was thinking I needed to match the threading of the self-drilling screw, and I couldn't find anything with those threads. I'll try some other kind of sheet metal screw and see what happens.

It had to be similar for best results, otherwise it will cut its own new thread. For a shifter boot that will be fine. If the screw tightens up, good to go. If it keeps turning go a size larger or with deeper thread.
