Back in the day, there were a few aftermarket cup holders made for the 2nd Gen, but doesn't seem any of them are still around, just wondering if anyone has some good ideals or founds a good working set-up for the 2nd Gen (not a fan of the ones inside the lid of the console)

Consider these options as a "work around".  Each can be made to work one way or another.  The last one would probably be easiest to adapt if mounting to the side of the console.  My 1980 F-Body was a 4-spd conversion so I still had the automatic console, and that might make a difference in usable space, but I actually found a food grade stainless container slightly larger than my cup, cut it down to height, sliced a length of neoprene tubing, and glued that over/around the cut edge so there were no sliced fingers. Then I just cut a hole in the top of the console in-between the shifter and that little cubby-hole in the front of the console, and dropped the holder into it.  It wasn't that great to be honest, but it worked.  "Older and Wider"  "Older and Wiser" now, I'd probably go to the salvage yard and get a proper cup-holder out of something, and I'd probably pick up another console from Craigslist or somewhere to butcher.   ...there's always the $5 plastic ones that slip between the door panel and window.   Something specific to the vehicle may still exist, but I couldn't begin to imagine where to look.  Searching my memory, the only cup holders I remember that were not OEM were the ones that hung from the door.   Regardless, I agree, the console compartment is the wrong place for this on several levels.   Best of Luck to you!
