So I have a 76 and 81. The 76 has a lot of rot going on, but I like the look. I know the front end needs all the 76 panels and hood, but for the rear, will the 76 rear cover bolt onto the 81 metal bumper? Or were the metal bumper part that the covers go over different?

After looking at the illustrations in the 78-81 parts book, I think you can use the 81 bumper  cover if you use all the 81 parts that bolt to 81 tail panel. Even though 76 uses different brackets, bumper bar, & cover, I'm thinking you can bolt all the 81 pieces to your 76 and it will  all fit together.

But, even if it doesn't work out, you can always put the original 76 parts back on.

Don't end with 2 license plate mounts when done.

For others in the future, you can use the 82 reinforcement bar with the 76-78 bumper, but you need to screw on a 1/2 piece of wood or metal the bar to pack it out or the 76-78 bumper will not fit tightly against the reinforcement.
