I have a 97 Bird with the 3.8 and was wondering if I have to go back with a 3.8 from another f body or can I use one from another gm vehicle. I thought about using a 4.3 but was told it wasn't a good idea. What's your opinion???

Most other GM vehicles that use the 3.8 v6 are front wheel drive cars. While the 3.8 front wheel drive engine is basically the same as 3.8 rear wheel drive engine, the front drive block is a different casting that doesn't adapt it's self easily to a rear drive car. There are other changes that make the swap not recommended.
