The illumination write to my deck shorted/fried and who knows how far back!!! I had to pull the fuses fur the radio and the radio accessories cause smoke started coming out of my dash... I sure hope nothing elsE melted in the process. Any ideas or easy fixes?

You mean just the radio display? That's what I get from "deck".

If so, the display going out in the radios is pretty common. Some people open them and replace the light, but I've never heard of smoke. Guess you could start by opening it up and finding where the smoke was coming from.

No the actual wire on the harness I found out that its the wire for the illumination of the radio display. Its fried all the way back in to the dash

Have anything flickering on and off in the past? Something is shorting and drawing excess current, burning up the wire, but not enough to trip a fuse.

I bet it has shorted to the dash metal somewhere. Trace it back and you should find the problem.

I took it into car toys they fixed the problem for free, I just had to buy a new radio deck, which I was in the market for anyways

I believe I have a similar issue.
Bought my Firebird the other day and Im having an issue with the radios clock.
It works all the time, however, its so dim its difficult to see even at night.

Do I need to remove the radio, take it apart, and replace the L.E.D?
If so, does anyone have a link to instructions; or at least the size or part number L.E.D I would need?
