I'd like to hang out... but I don't even drive my car any more. I work six days/60 hours a week. I have virtually no time left for anything but fixing stuff around the house on Sunday. It's a shame, because I have what is potentially a 9-second, 140MPH Formula sitting in my garage, and never get to take it to the track. All the SFI-rated parts, harness, etc. have long since expired and need to be recertified.

Spending a few hours a week on this site, helping others with their rides is about as much as I have time for, but it keeps me in touch with the car crowd. In addition, I'm older than dirt, and I doubt most of the younger guys would enjoy having me around.

For NJ members, one of the most active F-Body clubs is the NJFBOA - New Jersey F-Body Owners Assoc. Here's their website:

http://www.njfboa.org

Tends to be heavy with 3rd Gen owners, but 1st, 2nd and 4th are present. They have monthly meetings, and have local chapters that meet in north, central and south Jersey. They sponsor an F-Body event at Island Dragway each year.

This has been a tough year for get togethers for most local clubs as well as National car clubs too. The bad economy, high gas prices and rainy summer did not help either.

There are a lot of Firebird owners in the New York, New Jersey and the Connecticut area that will travel to events....one of the larger Firebird clubs in Connecticut is Charter Oak Firebirds. I am hoping that next year that there will be a good place to attract some Firebird guys for a get together.

Injuneer, I'm 21, for the most part, when it comes to the car scene, the older guys are always the ones that Dick around less, say things that are actually worth saying, and tend to be more organized. Your worth more to a car meet than you think.

:trueconfirmed22: . I agree 100%. After all if it weren't for the older guys how would us younger guys learn, atleast the sensible ones anyway.
As for your poor unused bird, I would gladly take care of her and take her to the track atleast once a month and only feed her the finest of fuels and lubricants. And she can spend the cold winters here in sunny Florida and go home to you in the summers. Lol. Just putting the offer on the table.
I have always enjoyed talking to the older crowd at the shows and meets I go to. The younger people for the most part just want to talk about rims, stereos, stickers, and "NOS". Lol no offense to the younger people but I like to know how the car got there and what has been done where I can't see.

I agree with you guys, it is sad it is so hard to get people to meet. I am working on the AZ crowd right now. I actually met Derick(dlfranci) today and showed him my 77 and took him for a ride in it. He said his will be legal very soon. It looks like meets are starting to look good here.

lmao it seems like none of us have our damn cars on the road for one reason or another. im hoping to have mine out by next week for at least a few cruises before the weather turns to an icy hell.my issue is that when i bought it i didnt know that in nj you had to be at least 25 years old to appreciate a classic car, or register it with QQ plates. so im gonna have to get my father to help me out with this one. lol and it needs a tune.

Keep in mind, you do not have to take your car to get together.

agreed. especially considering some people have projects that wont be on the road for years. admittedly, it would look kinda funny to have a firebird meet and no firebird. lol

not really.

I attended a local club picnic this year. as always, it was raining. So everyone drove their daily drivers and left the classics home in the garge.

we had our get together under the pavillion with not one classic car. But we had a great time.

Not saying that it wouldn't be a good time. Lol but lets just imagine the face of the curious person who asks what were Doug and we say we're having a firebird meet with nothing but trucks and small cars lettering the parking lot lol

Who cares what anyone thinks. same with that picnic. our banner was posted up as a classic car club, and not one classic. Did we care? nope.

If you have something this spring, and I can make it, I likely will try and bring the bird.

thats great because if we want this to be epic then were gonna need some people that really wanna make this happen. next spring would be the best time for a nice big meet so that gives us and whoever else would like to help get people in here a lot of time to figure things out.

I agree the east coast tri state area has been through it share of bad times over the past couple months!

You can count me in next year when the weather breaks, if you put together a meet and greet. Its always good times talkin with motorheads!

JERSEY used to be the IROC capital i dont see many of them here on the dark side! Matter of fact i dont see many generations at all.
