Lately I have been having an issue with my bird. When I first crank it up and drive it the shifts are real firm and the car will not go into 4th gear. If I crank it up and it is shifting real firm, I can drive it about 50 feet down the road turn the car off and wait about 10 seconds. Then crank it back up and the car shifts and drives fine. I am also having a idle issue. Sometimes it is idleing high around 1500 rpm and other times it idles fine at about 8-900rpm. The transmission issue seems to happen pretty regularly on a cold start up and the idle problem comes and goes. Any ideas has to whats going on? :)

Ken,

Have you scanned the PCM for codes? I would test the TPS.

The TPS and IAC were replace less than a year ago, but I have to say they have crossed my mind. I don't have any codes when this is happening, but I plan on getting my mechanic to hook it up and check the code history. I checked the tranny fluid first time this happened and the level looked fine. I am thinking maybe it is time to change the trannny fluid and filter. The transmission issue is my biggest concern. I may have to try changing the air flow sensor.

Talked to my mechanic and he told me it sounded like a TPS problem so I changed the TPS and what do you know problem solved. Man the engine seems to really depend on that thing. LOL
