That is correct the WS6 option was from the factory. WS7 and WS9 was after market addon's that could be done to the car.

It's like my friends 98 Trans Am. He has the WS9 Outlaw Hood. And the badges as well but it was a base Trans Am in the beginning.

WS7 was actually an option code that debuted in 1979. It represented the WS6 suspension upgrade (larger diameter sway bar and heavier springs) without the 4-wheel disc brakes. In short, it was a front disk/rear drum arrangement and all the other WS6 goodies.

Although Hitman's Trans Am page claims it was a 1979-only package, my 1980 TA records this option on the build sheet.

I understand and thought about that, since it's in the 4th Gen forum. But I also wanted to clarify that when folks state that WS7 is not a factory code, everyone understands that is not a blanket truth.

For the 4th Gens, "WS7" was a badge that Suncoast Creations made available for extra cost if you bought their replica WS6 hood. It was available as a sticker or an actual metal badge that was a copy of the real 4th Gen WS6 badge.... nothing more.

WS9 should appear on the build code tag for all the 4th Gen Formula and Trans Ams. The GM code lists, show it as "WS9 Formula Conversion". Basically, it means its a Firebird that got the V8 engine = Formula or Tran Am.
