Hi guys -
I am still chugging along with my 69 restoration - jumping back and forth between engine, body and interior work.. The block is done and ready to be assembled, I have 061 heads have been rebuilt and are ready to go along with most of the internal components. I don't want to assemble to motor since I still have plenty of work to do and don't want the assembled motor just sitting around. Are there any strong feelings regarding intake manifold selection? Would you definitely suggest going aftermarket? Any input would be appreciated..

Thanks

What kind of restoration are you doing? Numbers matching show car or rebuilding the car for fun

My car will be done for fun so I am doing mostly what I want close to stock IMO, while keeping the stock parts in case I ever decide I want that numbers matching show car

Btw I run an older edelbrok performer intake and carb

I see you are from Ohio. So if you'll be doing a lot of cold weather driving, It might be a good idea to run a Stock iron intake. The '68-'72 intakes are all very similar. So, any of 'em will do. I wouldn't use the '67. It has the "Hot Slot" "Smilely Face" groove, under the front of the carb, which proved to be a bad idea. This was a 1-year only feature.

The stock Q-jet intakes flow plenty good, even in a lot of 10 second NHRA Stockers.

But, if you want an alum intake, and still would like some heat running thru it, to help keep the carb warm, an Edelbrock Performer will work OK, on a mild street 400. :yes

I had seen a 2 piece factory ram air intake? Was aluminum and cast iron? Guess if you wanted aluminum but stock, also have seen later Pontiac v8 with all aluminum from the factory, all depends, the look and performance you are looking for
The '69 & '70 400 RAIV intakes, as well as the '71 & '72 455HO intakes, are all alum, with iron crossover. After this, there were no more Pontiac factory alum intakes. Even the SD455 engines came with iron intakes. :yes

There are repops of these factory alum intakes. But they ain't cheap. Used Performer intakes are plentiful and usually sell for less than $200. May be able to find one locally, in some ares, for around $100 or so. Used ones will many times have stripped threads in one or more holes. :( New ones are still under $300, but just barely.
