Does anyone know what this error code stands for? I get it when I try to insert a CD...it goes in, comes back out and displays E23...any help would be appreciated!

E23 : Communications Error Cause(s): There is a vehicle/radio communication problem or an internal radio communication problem. Correction(s): Disconnect battery voltage to the radio and then reconnect after a few minutes. If does not fix problem, then radio needs to be sent in for internal repair.

If the above described "reset" procedure does not work you likely have a bad logic board.

E23 means among other things that the drive had at least 3 bad crc's in trying to read the cd. The fault may be with the drive or with the cd. Make sure to try a good (pressed) cd.

What other things does a Logic Board control? Just the radio? The tuner works fine, it's just the CD player that rejects a disc and I have tried several discs

As far as I know it just for the CD player part of radio, shouldnt effect ur tuner or anything else.... Basically its just not able to convert the content/music on the CD thru the board to play out the speakers...

I disconnected the car battery under the hood for 5 minutes, wouldn't this be the same thing? Or does it specifically have to be the radio power connection?

I think it has to be the radio power connector..... i have a radio that acts up in my SUV, and ive tried disconnecting the battery on it to reset radio and it dont work, so i disconnect the plug from radio and then it resets and starts working again.

If you disconnect the battery the radio will lose all power, both switched and constant. It will have the same effect as and be easier than removing and disconnecting the radio. You could start pulling fuses too but I don't recommend that with the battery connected.

The non-volatile memory in a Delco 2001 Series radio (such as yours) retains radio station pre-set information and usually (but not always, oddly enough) any TheftLock code entered into the unit. All other memory settings will be reset.

Simon, is this linked in any way to the auto door lock transmitter? It was working when I first got the car, and now I can't seem to get it to work. Does this have anything to do with the Anti-Theft device?

Also, if I disconnected the battery, shouldn't the CD player work unless there is a malfunction in the system?

The radio has nothing to do with the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) receiver or Theft Deterrent Module (TDM).

If the radio is in need of some sort of resetting, which does happen occasionally when there is a "communication error," disconnecting and re-connecting the battery will serve that purpose.

When I had an old E&C CD changer in my car I would occasionally get an "E33" code on my head unit display, which signifies a CD changer communication error. Disconnecting and re-connecting the CD changer fixed it every time.

Thanks Simon...I tried disconnecting the battery and i still have the problem. I guess it's an error that needs to be fixed by a tech. With regards to the RKE, what would cause that to stop working? I tried searching the older blogs and I only found parts of the info, but not the fix. I saw somewhere that you mentioned the map lights under the mirror. These do not come on when I hit any of the buttons. It doesn't engage the door locks and not the hatch or the the hatch and not the door locks. I had RKE in the Autozone store and checked it to see if it is working and I got the green light (I replaced the batteries to make sure). Any ideas why this would just randomly stop working?

One last thing...the "maintenance soon" light is on and everything has been taken care. How do i turn this light off? I saw othet blogs that did a reset by pressing and holding the trip reset button and others suggested pumping the gas 3 times. I tried both and neither worked.

According to the 95 Owner's Manual (page 2-66), they do not show a "maintenance soon" light on the dash. Do you mean the SES or "Service Engine Soon" light? If that light is on, you still have a problem. And there is no "reset" procedure described in the Owner's Manual. The STORED codes in the PCM can be cleared by pulling the "PCM BAT" fuse (underhood box) for 30 seconds. But if there is an ACTIVE code still present, the SES light will stay on.

Yup, it's the SES light....soory, this is my first Bird and i have only had it two weeks so I am trying to get used to it. I had the guys at Autozone read the error codes and I fixed what the codes were triggering. So if I pull the fuse and reinstall, it should reset?

Clear it with a scanner, if the light comes back the error was not fixed. If it stays off, it's fixed.

Like Fred said earlier, you can try to clear DTCs to turn the light off, but if there is a problem in any of the emissions control circuits monitored by the PCM, the DTC will be triggered and the SES light will come on again, quite possibly as you drive away from wherever you have the codes cleared.

:trueconfirmed22:

If the condition no longer exists because you repaired the circuit(s), the PCM must typically monitor a number of "drive cycles" completed without the DTC being triggered.
